Our Services
Drama Co-Curricular Activity
Our Drama Co-Curricular Activity develops the whole student—artistically, socially, and emotionally. Each session is designed to encourage self-expression, strengthen communication, and promote empathy.
Our approach blends performance training with educational outcomes, empowering students to discover their voices while working collaboratively as an ensemble. Pedagogically, Tongue in Cheek draws on Stanislavski’s Actor Training Methodology and Declan Donnellan’s Target Work, while also incorporating Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints and a range of vocal techniques from leading practitioners. Together, these methods engage the full range of an actor’s body, voice, and presence on stage.
Whether rehearsing a play, improvising a scene, or devising original theatre, students not only develop stagecraft but also gain the confidence, adaptability, and creativity that will serve them in everyday life.
Beyond weekly training, Tongue in Cheek offers a range of specialised services to broaden students’ exposure and deepen their learning in theatre. These programmes complement our Drama CCA and provide students with professional insights, technical knowledge, and authentic experiences of the theatre-making process.
SYF Behind the Scenes
An introductory technical theatre course covering the fundamentals of lighting design and operations, sound design and operations, and stage management. This course helps students appreciate the vital “behind the scenes” work that makes productions possible.
SYF Lighting Mentorship Programme
In preparation for the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF), we engage a professional lighting designer to design, plot, and mentor the student lighting crew. This lessens the load on trainers while ensuring students receive expert technical guidance.
Masterclass
Tongue in Cheek arranges week-long masterclasses for Drama students, bringing in professional artists to expand their skills. Past masterclasses have included Puppetry, Clowning, Improvisation, and Voice.
From a Professional’s Handbook
Through our strong connections in the local theatre scene, we invite professional artists to share their expertise and experiences. These may take the form of interviews, talkback sessions, or workshops, offering students valuable industry perspectives.
Art Exposure
We believe in immersing students in the full theatre experience by providing opportunities to attend live performances. Tongue in Cheek helps source public productions, giving students a chance to witness professional theatre and reflect on their own artistic journeys.
Drama in Curriculum
Our Drama in Curriculum programs bring the power of drama directly into the classroom, supporting both subject mastery and personal growth. By using drama as a learning tool, students don’t just absorb information—they actively explore, question, and reflect.
Tongue in Cheek designs sessions that integrate drama strategies with curriculum goals. Through role-play, improvisation, and embodied learning, students develop a deeper connection to subject matter while cultivating reflective and critical habits of mind.
Through our Drama in Curriculum programs, students gain more than academic knowledge—they develop confidence, creativity, self-awareness, and intellectual independence. These skills not only strengthen subject understanding but also prepare students to be reflective, critical, and compassionate learners in today’s complex world.
